Ok…you made a mistake. You did not wait on God. You charged right in. You got tired of waiting on the new job…of waiting on the money…of waiting for “Mr. Right”…of waiting on a ’sign from God’. As soon as you ‘inked’ the deal, you knew it was wrong. You married the wrong guy…you jumped ship from one company to a new one, only to find the new boss is worse than the old one…you entered into the partnership only to find out the new partner has a horrible reputation.
Last week we talked about Lot’s desire to have a son to carry on the family name. His two daughters got tired of waiting on God, so they each enticed their dad to get drunk and each daughter got pregnant by their father. They both had sons for Lot. One was Moab and one was Ammon. These two boys became heads of nations that terrorized the nation of Israel for years and years! This was the tragic consequences of not waiting on God.
Do we have a ‘Moab’ that we birthed by not waiting on God? Yep…a credit card debt that we incurred seven years ago. Because we did not wait for God to provide for a need, every month we make a sizeable payment to a credit card company, a sizeable monthly reminder of the dangers of not waiting on God.
Can I get God to waive a magic wand and reverse situations? No!
Once you have birthed a ‘Moab’ or a ‘Ammon’, you can’t undue it. Your Moab may be a debt you created when you did not wait on God to provide. Your Moab may be a terrible job situation you jumped into because you got tired of waiting on God to fix your former job. Your Moab may be a spouse that you married because you were not patient enough to wait for God to lead you to His mate for you.
Can any good come from a ‘Moab’ situation? The answer is yes.
Follow these instructions:
- Confess the sin of not waiting on God
- Ask God to forgive you
- Ask God to give you grace to endure the ‘Moab’ situation
- Trust the sovereignty of God that He can make all things work together for good for those who are His children
- Thank God that you have a constant reminder of the consequences of not waiting on God
God will not erase your Moab…but He can attach new meaning to it and He can cause good to come out of the situation. In the lineage of Jesus from Abraham to Joseph, three women are included. One is Ruth. She was a wonderful, honorable, virtuous woman. She happened to be the great grandmother of King David…and…she happened to be a descendant of Moab! Ruth 1:22 (KJV) So Naomi returned, and Ruth the Moabitess, her daughter in law, with her, which returned out of the country of Moab: and they came to Bethlehem in the beginning of barley harvest. Matthew 1:5-6 (KJV) And Salmon begat Boaz of Rachab; and Boaz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse; And Jesse begat David the king;… Romans 8:28 (NKJV) And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
Psalm 27:14 (KJV) Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.
God bless you as you wait on God in this new year. We love yall.
